Nihal is a Palestinian food activist, curator and former assistant producer to Arab film festivals and emerging Palestinian directors. Her goals are to promote Nakba awareness through culinary events, and to continue elevating the PFFA by expanding platforms for Palestinian cinema. She lives in Amsterdam with her ginger cat Gabber.
Sarah is a Canadian-Portuguese film programmer, cultural worker, and community organizer from Montreal, where she studied journalism and film. She joined the PFFA production team after successfully coordinating the 2023 Amsterdam edition of the global Queer Cinema for Palestine (QCP). Sarah has administered numerous aspects of the PFFA’s transition from a grassroots organization to a foundation, and was largely responsible for the festival's pre-production. Her passion lies at the intersection of socially engaged art and community-building.
Allison is a Chilean-Canadian filmmaker, film programmer and audiovisual creative specialized in social outreach, art direction and curation. Based in Barcelona, she is interested in creating diverse, intersectional film and video programs for social impact. In 2024, she joined the PFFA as Social Media and Website Manager and has contributed greatly towards shaping the festival’s visual profile. Additionally, Allison is a co-founder of Ratita Films and recently won the Jury's Prize at the Festival de la poésie de Montréal.
Laura is an Amsterdam-based Offline & Online Editor, experienced in commercials, documentaries and online content. She is passionate about storytelling, with a special interest in stories exploring cultural identities, and was an invaluable asset to the 2023 edition. Laura continued supervising the PFFA by resuming her role as print traffic supporter, as well as editing the gripping 2024 festival trailer.
Mary Ann is a Palestinian graphic designer, branding expert and illustrator with nearly thirty years of freelance experience. She previously created posters for the QCP festival and designed the stunning 2024 PFFA festival poster, laying the foundation for the fourth edition’s visual identity. As co-founder of The Hummus Academy, she focuses on decolonizing indigenous cuisines through authentic narratives. Mary Ann is passionate about Arabic typography, and is a ceramist with her brand "Ballet Tin" ةّ طين بل.
Isabelle Barter is a Portland-based software engineer with a long history of working for social justice and Palestinian liberation. Isabelle has been contributing her web developer skills to building a website for the PFFA since 2023.
Alfredo M. Pontes is a visual anthropologist and cultural strategist committed to racial justice and the politics of representation. With experience in media-based research, documentary filmmaking and film festival coordination, Alfredo focuses on amplifying underrepresented discourses and fostering cross-cultural dialogue. At the PFFA, he works to connect audiences with the powerful narratives of Palestinian cinema through ethical and creative storytelling.
Fatme is a Palestinian-Italian Media and Culture student actively engaged in Amsterdam's cultural scene. She has volunteered at various film festivals, including Bildrausch Basel in Switzerland and the Social World Film Festival in Italy. Currently, she serves on the committee of UvA's student organization OffScreen. Her responsibilities include assisting the Social Media Manager, advising on film selection, and coordinating youth events during the festival.
Nush is a British-Pakistani activist and actor who is passionate about film. She has participated in public readings for the Gaza Monologues at Pegasus Theatre in Oxford and is a member of the Oxford Ramallah Friendship Association (ORFA), which allowed her to visit Ramallah in 2022 for an international theatre festival organized by ASHTAR theatre. Nush joined the PFFA to create visibility for Palestinian people and to celebrate their culture.
Alba Noor Tuytens El-kum is a Spanish-Palestinian-Belgian film student who is passionate about exploring the intersection of cinema and social justice through her work. Noor designed posters for fringe events, assisted the promo team and created social media platforms for the 2024 PFFA edition.
Skylar is an Indigenous American forensic anthropologist/archaeologist and human rights advocate currently working on her PhD at Leiden University. She has been a long time activist for Palestinian liberation and has been actively engaged in many other social justice issues as well over the years. Prior to focusing more heavily on her human rights and humanitarian work in recent years, she also studied and worked in theatre arts while in university and participated in the development of a few independent films. Skylar is currently acting as the volunteer coordinator for the 2024 PFFA.
Alia is a Palestinian film and heritage scholar, filmmaker, and writer. She was the 2023 PFFA guest of honour with her documentary The Golden Harvest. Alia has worked as a screenwriter and script analyst in Los Angeles, co-founded the Zayed University Middle East Film Festival (ZUMEFF), and was an Associate Professor at NYU Abu Dhabi.
Özge is a Lecturer in Literary and Cultural Analysis at the University of Amsterdam and is the author of Making the Modern Turkish Citizen: Vernacular Photography in the Early Republican Era. Since 2008, she has worked as a curator and consultant for a number of film festivals and institutions including the Abu Dhabi Film Festival, the Doha Film Institute, DokuFest, Punto de Vista, Imagine Science, Cinema Akil, and DOK Leipzig. Özge will moderate several films at the 2024 PFFA.
Mara is a Pakistani-American interdisciplinary artist and activist filmmaker based in New York, with a focus on dialogue across physical and psychological borders. She owns Neelum Films and directed the documentary A Thin Wall, which won a Special Jury Prize. This documentary addresses the partition of India and the potential for reconciliation between divided nations. Her experience as a former festival coordinator at Rochester Witness for Palestine, as well as editing the 2023 trailer, has contributed to the PFFA and its identity.
